TKAM post #4 chapters 18-24

                                                                    Jem

Today Dill, Scout, and I snuck out to go see the trial father has been the lawyer for. There were no seats were we were suppose to sit, so Reverend Sykes snuck us up to the balcony where the colored people sat. We sat in the back to prevent Attics from seeing us. The case was about this nineteen year old girl named Mayella who accused Tom Robinson of beating and rape. Father was the lawyer for Tom Robinson. Mr. Gilmer questioned Heck Tate who says on the night of November 21, Bob Ewell urged him to go to the Ewells house and that Mayella had been raped. Mayella told him that Tom Robinson had raped and beaten her. Next father cross-examines Mayellas father who said he had gone to get kindling, when we heard his daughter yelling he reached out of the house and saw Tom raping Mayella. She claimed someone hit her in the eye but from the side of her face it had to be someone who punches with there left hand and Tom wasn't that person. It was improbable

When it was Mayellas turn to be asked questions she looked frightened, he face looked of apprehension, if i was up there i would be obscure what to do. Probably cry because it would be so scary up there where everyone is staring a you and your forced to answer all the questions. A while after it was time to take a break. Dill, Scout and i went out side to find Mr. Dolphus Raymond, he was drinking out of a paper sack as usuall. I asked his what was in side. He told Dill to take a sip, he did. Scout and I freaked out. Dill! why would you drink such a thing? But Dill said it was just coca cola. Mr. Dolphus Raymond told us he lies about always drinking so he had a reason for the way he lives and his lifestyle. Next thing we know its time to go back in the courtroom.

As we take our seats we see Calpurnia rush in and hand Atticus a note. The note said that we had gone missing and her or aunt Alexandra couldn't find us anywhere. As Atticus looks up to find us sitting in the balcony he calls us down. He said we must go home. I told father Dill, Scout and I didn't want to leave. We wanted to see what was going to happen in the case. Father finally gave in and told us we were allowed to come back, but we must go home with cal and eat supper first. We went home and ate supper. Then hurried back to the courthouse. At the end of the day Atticus and Tom lost there case. Tom was charged with capital punishment and would have to loose his life. I thought i was a crazy thing to do. Just because he is accused of something he did not do, he has to get killed. That is unfair, i knew this was inevitable because Tom Robinson is black. I was trying to sustain the tears.

TKAM post #3 chapters 13-15

                                                                 Atticus

Today, Scout and Jem's aunt, Aunt Alexandra came to visit. She explains that she has to stay with us for a while so that Scout can have a female in the house. She said it will be a good thing for Scout and that she needs a "female influence" in the Finch family. I was pensive about this idea, i don't know if Alexandra is the right person for this, She thinks she's infallible. Although, Everyone on maycomb felt very comfortable with having Alexandra here. The citizens made her feel at home by baking her cakes and having her over for coffee. After a while around Alexandra, the kids seem to be laking pride of her. She tried to convince me lecture the kids, she told me i needed to take better care of them. I think i know how to take care of my own children! But, i decided to talk to them anyway and it ended emerging Scouts feelings and tears.

While i'm preoccupied with my trial as a lawyer, i don't need to have any more distractions. One day, Scout tried to ask me what "rape" is, i answered in a way she wouldn't understand. She heard that word from a trip to visit cal's church. Alexandra got very upset and told them that there were not allowed back there.  Later, she tries to explain to me that i should get rid of, Cal. I refused. That night, i heard Jem tell Scout not to antagonize Alexandra. I think that might be a good idea.

Scout got angry and decided to pick a fight with Jem, i broke it up and sent them to their rooms to go to bed. Later on, Jem comes to me and tells me that Dill had escaped from home and came to visit us. I told Scout to get Dill some food, He said he was starving. Scout said that Dill ran away from home because his parents don't pay enough attention to him. After he eat, they all went to sleep. The next day i took the car into town, to find that Scout and Jem were following me. I was in-front of the maycomb jail reading the newspaper. Meanwhile, i saw Jem, Scout, and Dill from a distence. As they came closer i ordered them to go home. Jem refused. Later we all headed home.

                                                                        Mrs. Dubose

I saw Jem and Scout pass by today on there way home from school. Those kids should be more kind to an older lady like me. Im always nice to them, well when im in the mood. Those kids always think of me as peril and cantankerous but i contradict. One day Jem came by to talk, i was feeling a little different and a little angry. I told Jem that Atticus was not any better that niggers and trash he works for. I really didn't mean to say such a hurtful thing i was just on some medication and i was not feeling normal but i tried to inconsporarie it. The kid got very angry with me and decided to destroy all my camellia bushes. I think he should deserve a punishment but i was not inaudible. The punishment that was given to him was that he had to come to my house everyday for a month and read to me. Scout decides to come along, Jem could use the extra help. Every session is longer than the one before, Jem deserves that kind of punishment for what he did. The sessions end quickly then Jem is free to go on with his life. I bet he really dislikes me now. A month after he's sessions where over i got even more sick, I died later that month. After Jem finds out the truth of what was really going on and the reason behind the different emotions i was having he felt uncomfortable, he was very upset at himself that he treated me with such bad manners, he didn't know what was going on. After my death, Jem felt so terrible for ruining my camellia bushes he gave a box to Atticus to give to her, in lies a single camellia.

TKAM post #2 chapters 4-8

Hi, i'm Jem Finch. I live in Maycomb with my father, Atticus and my little sister Scout, she can be very quibbling. The other day Scout came home from school she told me she had passed by Boo Radley's house and she saw a piece of tin foil istuck inside a tree hole. She said she stuck her hand in there to find two pieces of chewing gum. She had eaten them both! I thought she had gone crazy! I panicked and made her spit it out. Who would be dumb enough to eat two pieces of chewing gum found in a tree in front of the Radley's house?! Scout, thats who. However, on Scouts last day of school we had both found two Indian-head pennies and decided to keep them, we were unanimous.

Summer is here! Dill returns to Maycomb and we begin with playing out games again like the one game where we roll eachother in a tire. On Scouts turn, i pushed her and she rolled down and infront of the Radley's place. Scout and I both panicked. After the incident it sparked me to think of another game called "Boo Radley". as the summer passes on, there game becomes more complicated considering it was the Radley's. Soon enough, father catches us playing and asks is if our game had anything to do with Boo Radley. I lied and said no. I wonder if it is still safe to play this anymore? Hes tormenting g us with his secrecy.

One day, Scout and I planed to sneak over to the Radley place and peek through a loose shutter. Suddenly, we see a man with a hat on, We were frightened. We tried to evasion him. We both escaped under the fence, but as we were doing so my pants got caught and i was forced to kick them off leaving them behind. A few days later we had experienced our first time in snow! We made a snowman that looked quite similar to Mr. Avery. Father was impressed how well we did. That night, father woke up Scout and I and told us to go outside. Come to find Miss Maudie's house was on fire. It burned to the ground. Someone had draped a blanket over scout as she watched the house in flames. Father asked her who it was and Scout had no clue who did that. Later, i foudn out it was Boo Radley who did such a thing. Scout nearly threw up when she found out. After, Miss Maudie was in excitement. She told us how she hated her old home and how she was already planning to build a smaller house and plant a larger garden. I thought that was kid of tyranny.

TKAM post #1: Chapters 1-3

Hello, my name is Jean Louise Finch but my nickname is Scout. I am in first grade. I live in Maycomb with my older brother named Jem and a father named Atticus. Unfortunently, my mother died when I was two and the times I spent with her when I was younge surly faded. I am very smart for my age, I love to read. My dad says I'm really good at reading. Im always playing with my older brother and my friend Dill.

I was excited to start school, after I finally got to school I found that my teacher Miss Caroline, seemed to be displeased that I already knew how to read and I was good at it. She told me to tell my father to stop teaching me how to read. I was very confused. I dont think Miss Caroline likes me all that much since im good at reading. Later, Miss Caroline found that Walter Cunningham did not bring a lunch and she offered him a quarter hoping he would pay her back, unfortunately she did not realize that he couldn't afford to pay her back he was very poor. As I tried to explain to her she got even more frustrated with me, so frustrated that she smacked my hands with a ruler. I dont think I like school as much as I thought I would, i really dont want to come back here.

Later that day I told my father we couldn't read together anymore because of what Miss Caroline said and I told him I did not want to go to school anymore. He didn't go to school and he turned out fine. He told me that I had to go to school, but that he would keep reading to me as long as i didn't tell Miss Caroline. I liked this idea! it was a compromise, said Atticus.

In this book i wonder about a lot of things such as why they let Jordan come back to visit Angel and Gerald right when things were starting to get better? Its really not a smart idea to bring back the person who brought fear into their lives. I don't understand why he did that to them in the first place? He knows he is wrong but he dose it to them anyways. and im really glad he had to go to prison because he deserved it for doing such a horrible thing to those poor kids. He just brought more pain into there lives and he just hurt them.

The character i like the most is Gerald because he's such a caring young man and he is always there for Angel and he takes really good care of her since they were really young. He protects her from Jordan and he is so loving and he always sticks up for her. He wanted her do do anything she wanted like dance. Angel loved to dance and she wanted to go to dance lessons but her mother thought it was a wast of time but Gerald wanted her to dance because he knew she loved to dance.

What i read today made me feel worried and scared for Angel and Gerald because Jordan came back and he says that he changed and that hes different but i dont think thats true i think hes the same person he was and im scared he will hurt the kids again. He seems like a very dangerous man and i dont think they should live their lives scared of his because what he once did to them.

Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
The character I would most like to be like would have to be Gerald because he had a really hard life and he had to deal with allot of thing that went on in his life like having the most important person in his life die. Even though he had a hard life he still what  grew up to be a hard working person that cared for his new little sister Angel. And what the step dad Jordan had done to her. He stood up for her and helped her through the toughest times in her childhood as a 7 year old. And he got help by telling the truth to a person he trusted, and knew that he wouldn't tell. Jordan is no longer in their lives because of what Gerald did for his little sister.

How did what you read today make you feel? Why?
In the chapters I just read I felt that Gerald did the right thing in telling the truth to protect his little sister, and his family from their step dad who abused and tried to hurt Angel the little sister. And I feel that they will have a better life without Jordan because he caused many problems in there lives and hurt many people including his family. I feel sad for Angel and all the pain and suffering that she has been through especially because she is a child and a child should not go through something like that. I also feel bad for Gerald because he went through something similar by not having a father and his mother didn't pay much attention to him.

What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?
I think that another character that is very important to the story is the mother Monique. Because she acts like Jordan is doing good things for them, but deep down inside she knows that he is a bad person and that she wants the best for her children and she doesn't want any trouble in there lives. She wants her children to grow up forgetting about there past and all that they have been through and grow up to be successful in everything they do. She is the mother of her children she should know what would be the best for them and that is not by having an abusive husband in their lives.

What i have read so far makes me feel sad because this little boy had to be separated from his mother and he had no father so we had to live with his aunt who is in a wheelchair. and 6 years later on his birthday his aunt tells him that his mother is coming to visit. he dose not know if he really wants to see her again. After his mother comes to visit she wants him to live with her but the little boy dose not want to. The next day his aunt had a heart attack and died so he was forced to live with his mother again.

One thing i wonder about this book is how this little boy's life will be after his aunt dies and his life living with his mother who use to beat and burn him. I wonder if he will be able to have a normal life or having his life stay the same and accept that his aunt the only person who really cared about him died.

I would most want to be like the little boys aunt because she was very caring towards him and she was the only one who really wanted to help the little boy become a normal person after what his mother had done to him. She never was mean to him or hurt him like his mother was and she tried her best to make this little boy's life be amazing.

Book Review

Tears Of A Tiger
By: Sharon M. Draper
By: Lisette Charmasson

During the past couple weeks i have been reading Tears Of A Tiger by Sharon M. Draper. In this book a high school student and some of his friends had just won a basketball game and wanted to go out and celebrate. The main character, Andy Jackson decided he would drive. They all started drinking and having a good time until suddenly they looked in front of them and all they saw was a wall, they hit it. Three of the teenagers got out of the car as soon as possible while Robert Washington, Andy’s best friend was stuck inside of the car, he wasn't able to get out. Two of the boys ran over to try and help Robert out. As soon as they got close to the car the gas tank had exploded with Robert in it, burning and killing him to death.

Ever since the accident Andy cant do anything but blame himself for what he had done to his best friend. No matter what his friends, family, girlfriend, or even his psychologist said, Andy could never forgive himself. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to face the future. The only way he could get over the death of his best friend was if he killed himself. He later committed suicide.

The characters in this book  are caring and are always there for Andy through his hard life and they would do anything to help him get through the death of Robert. my favorite part of the book was when all of Andy’s friends and family wrote him all letters after he killed himself. It showed that they were really concerned about Andy and they really cared about him and that Andy shouldn't have choose that path to go in life instead on getting help.

I would defiantly recommend other student or adults to read this book because its a very good book and it tells a sad but meaning full story about how life would be thinking it was your fault your best friend was dead and how everyone treats you and knowing it will never leave you, it will be with you your whole life. This book also teaches you lessons such as not to drink and drive and always get help instead of making to situation harder to deal with.

One thing i wonder about this book is what Andy’s family is saying about all this, he doesn't talk much about his family besides his little brother Monty. I also wonder why Andy choose to take the wrong path in life and kill himself when he could have got help by his psychologist.
