TKAM post #4 chapters 18-24

                                                                    Jem

Today Dill, Scout, and I snuck out to go see the trial father has been the lawyer for. There were no seats were we were suppose to sit, so Reverend Sykes snuck us up to the balcony where the colored people sat. We sat in the back to prevent Attics from seeing us. The case was about this nineteen year old girl named Mayella who accused Tom Robinson of beating and rape. Father was the lawyer for Tom Robinson. Mr. Gilmer questioned Heck Tate who says on the night of November 21, Bob Ewell urged him to go to the Ewells house and that Mayella had been raped. Mayella told him that Tom Robinson had raped and beaten her. Next father cross-examines Mayellas father who said he had gone to get kindling, when we heard his daughter yelling he reached out of the house and saw Tom raping Mayella. She claimed someone hit her in the eye but from the side of her face it had to be someone who punches with there left hand and Tom wasn't that person. It was improbable

When it was Mayellas turn to be asked questions she looked frightened, he face looked of apprehension, if i was up there i would be obscure what to do. Probably cry because it would be so scary up there where everyone is staring a you and your forced to answer all the questions. A while after it was time to take a break. Dill, Scout and i went out side to find Mr. Dolphus Raymond, he was drinking out of a paper sack as usuall. I asked his what was in side. He told Dill to take a sip, he did. Scout and I freaked out. Dill! why would you drink such a thing? But Dill said it was just coca cola. Mr. Dolphus Raymond told us he lies about always drinking so he had a reason for the way he lives and his lifestyle. Next thing we know its time to go back in the courtroom.

As we take our seats we see Calpurnia rush in and hand Atticus a note. The note said that we had gone missing and her or aunt Alexandra couldn't find us anywhere. As Atticus looks up to find us sitting in the balcony he calls us down. He said we must go home. I told father Dill, Scout and I didn't want to leave. We wanted to see what was going to happen in the case. Father finally gave in and told us we were allowed to come back, but we must go home with cal and eat supper first. We went home and ate supper. Then hurried back to the courthouse. At the end of the day Atticus and Tom lost there case. Tom was charged with capital punishment and would have to loose his life. I thought i was a crazy thing to do. Just because he is accused of something he did not do, he has to get killed. That is unfair, i knew this was inevitable because Tom Robinson is black. I was trying to sustain the tears.

  1. This was your best post so far!(: It was so detailed and accurate. The only thing I have to say is that maybe you could have added some thoughts and events that weren't mentioned in the book. You could have been more detailed when it came to Jem's emotion, but other than that great job Lisette!

  2. Good Job Lisette!! You have really improved you're writing over these assignments. Make sure you read over your work before you publish it, there was a little bit of fpelling and grammar errors. For example you wrote, "there were no seats were we were supposed to sit..." I think you just got confused on your wheres and were, next time write: there were no seats WHERE we were supposed to sit..." Good job!!!!!!
